About Us

Safe Kids USA is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under.

More than 450 coalitions in 17 countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

Safe Kids Worldwide was founded in 1987 as the National SAFE KIDS Campaign by Children’s National Medical Center with support from Johnson & Johnson. Safe Kids Worldwide is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C. Safe Kids North Central Florida was founded in 1993. Safe Kids North Central Florida brings together more than 80 organizations and individuals in eight counties who are concerned about childhood injury prevention.

Our mission is to provide education, programming and awareness about preventable injuries. Our coalition provides leadership to North Central Florida in an effort to reduce unintentional childhood injury. Our primary focus is to educate children, parents, caregivers, and the public; advocate for child safety; and conduct injury prevention programs in North Central Florida. The local coalition’s efforts are led by Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida with funding provided in large part by the Children’s Miracle Network. Our coalition provides leadership to North Central Florida in an effort to reduce unintentional childhood injury. Our primary focus is to educate children, parents, caregivers, and the public; advocate for child safety; and conduct injury prevention programs in North Central Florida.

Safe Kids North Central Florida serves 8 counties: Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Suwannee and Union.

Below are some impressive numbers highlighting our accomplishments this year:

  • 132 CPS/Occupant Protection events
  • 487 car seats provided
  • 96 car seat classes held
  • 993 individuals served through car seat activities (includes 0-14 plus teen drivers)
  • 206 special needs car seats provided
  • 3,469 bike helmets distributed/fitted
  • 58,051 children educated through classroom education and community events
  • 100,087 FDOT specialty items distributed.
