Do I need an appointment? Yes. You need to have an appointment to attend a Safe Kids car seat event. If you have more than one child, please make an additional appointment for each child.
How long will it take? An appointment takes about 20-30 minutes to install one car seat. Most events are full, so we appreciate you being on time for your appointment.
How do I purchase a car seat? When you make your car seat appointment, you can request a car seat to purchase under the "comment" section. You can select an infant, convertible or booster seat. Safe Kids will bring your car seat to your appointment.
Do I need to bring my child? Yes. If you can bring your child to your appointment, we can also check the harness and clip and make sure it is correctly fitted to your child. If your child cannot attend, we can still check your installation of your car seat.
Are there free car seats? There are no free car seats available. You can purchase a reduced-cost car seat for $45 (infant, convertible seats and high-back boosters). Car seats are available for $20 to those who are government subsidized programs like WIC or Medicaid. Proof of participation in program will be required at time of purchase. You can only purchase one car seat for $20. Additional seats for second vehicles, spouses, grandparents, etc. must be purchased at the reduced cost of $45. No exceptions allowed.
Can I go to a police station or fire station and get my car seat installed? No. At this time, Safe Kids is the only agency who has certified car seat technicians who can check your car seat. Police and fire stations do not have additional staff available to assist the public with car seat installations.
What do I need to bring to my appointment? Certified technicians will need your vehicle's car manual and your car seat instruction manual. If you have a new car seat, remove your new car seat from box and install in your vehicle prior to your appointment.
