In observance of Child Passenger Safety Week, Shands Safe Kids held six events to educate parents and children about the importance of child passenger safety. These events included: Car seat checks in Gainesville, Lake City and Live Oak, Buckle Up Booths at Main St. Chevrolet and in the Shands Hospital Atrium and a car seat class at Alachua Day Care. At these six events, more than 53 car seats were checked or installed.

Shands Safe Kids helped to supply and fit new helmets on all the 1,080 elementary school children in Dixie County. With the help of Safe Kids Florida, Alachua County Fire and Rescue, Dixie County EMS and the Dixie County School System, Safe Kids provided a properly fitted helmet to each child at Anderson Elementary in Cross City and Old Town Elementary in Old Town.
