3/28/2005 | SHANDS SAFE KIDS EDUCATES PARENTS AND CHILDREN
In observance of Child Passenger Safety Week, Shands Safe Kids held six events to educate parents and children about the importance of child passenger safety. These events included: Car seat checks in Gainesville, Lake City and Live Oak, Buckle Up Booths at Main St. Chevrolet and in the Shands Hospital Atrium and a car seat class at Alachua Day Care. 3/28/2005 | SHANDS SAFE KIDS DISTRIBUTES AND FITS HELMETS TO KIDS IN DIXIE COUNTY
Shands Safe Kids helped to supply and fit new helmets on all the 1,080 elementary school children in Dixie County. With the help of Safe Kids Florida, Alachua County Fire and Rescue, Dixie County EMS and the Dixie County School System, Safe Kids provided a properly fitted helmet to each child at Anderson Elementary in Cross City and Old Town Elementary in Old Town. More >

2/3/2005 | HEARING IMPAIRED CHILDREN RECEIVE SPECIAL SMOKE ALARMS
Caleb Lewis, 10, was the first hearing-impaired child in Alachua County to receive special smoke alarms including strobe lights provided by Safe Kids North Central Florida at Shands Children’s Hospital, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Lowe’s and Preston Link. More >

7/26/2004 | KIDS GET CAUGHT PLAYING IT SAFE
In an effort to promote bicycle helmet use, Shands Safe Kids and area law enforcement officers will begin ticketing children they “catch” wearing their helmets. These tickets will be redeemable at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream for a free cone or cup. More >
