Warning on Infant Sleep Positioners

On Sept. 29, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers to stop using infant sleep positioners. Over the past 13 years, the two agencies have received 12 reports of infants ages 1 month to 4 months who died when they suffocated in sleep positioners or became trapped and suffocated between a sleep positioner and the side of a crib or bassinet. These devices typically claim to help keep infants on their backs and to reduce the risk of SIDS. To date, there is no scientific evidence that sleep positioners prevent SIDS.
