In our most ambitious year to date, Safe Kids has researched, planned and implemented six injury prevention programs dealing with the most deadly areas of injury prevention. These programs included: a comprehensive fire safety program, a school-based bike safety program, an ongoing child passenger safety program, a back to school program, a new ATV safety campaign and Safe Kids Week. Each of these programs used multiple tools to reach the target audience including: radio, TV and print public service announcements, media relations, newsletters, direct mail, specialty items and special events.
Following are some impressive numbers highlighting our accomplishments this year:
- 144 total events sponsored by Safe Kids
- 97 child passenger safety events, up 30 percent from previous year
- 1,999 individuals served through car seat activities
- Baseline injury data gathered and used to guide budgeting and program development
- 2,681 bike helmets distributed and fitted, up 300 percent from previous year
- 1,028 members of the Safe Kids Club, an increase of 66 percent
- 49 special needs car seats provided for children at Shands Children’s Hospital
